SERC has developed additional senior housing in the Washington Park neighborhood. St. Edmund’s Tower Annex (Tower Annex) provides affordable one-bedroom apartments to thirty-four (34) seniors in a newly constructed apartment building in the Washington Park community. All units are reserved for seniors over the age of 62 earning less than 50% of AMI (approximately $31,850 annually). It is located next to St. Edmund’s Tower, SERC’s 59-unit HUD 202 senior development completed in 1987.
Tower Annex is an Energy Star rated development. In addition to Energy Star rated appliances, window air conditioner units and mini-blinds. Building amenities include a lobby lounge, a multi-purpose community room, a security desk, laundry facilities, a garden and off-street parking. A social service coordinator is on-site to assist residents and make sure they are aware of and obtain City and State services they are eligible to receive as well as plan trips and outings. The lobby lounge and multi-purpose rooms have picturesque windows that enable residents to enjoy the landscaping and sites while waiting for their transportation or relaxing. In 2018, SERC acquired three buildings in the Woodlawn community to preserve affordable housing for senior and disabled residents. SERC's first new construction development was a six story 59-unit senior housing development. SERC's goal was to provide safe affordable housing for seniors. Through the HUD 202 Program, all elderly residents, over the age of 62, pay no more than 30% of their adjusted income for rent. Amenities include laundry facilities, window air-conditioning units, off-street parking and various monthly activities. A social service coordinator is on-site to assist residents and make sure they are aware of and obtain City and State services they are eligible to receive as well as plan trips and outings.
